Anesthesia free dental cleanings are a safe natural solution for dogs and cats that have mild to moderate dental tartar
We recommend starting your pets at an early age rather than waiting until they develop dental disease. Prevention is the best solution. Dogs and Cats should have their teeth cleaned every 6 months.
Dental plaque and tartar can quickly build up on your pets teeth. Routine dental cleanings are an important part of your pet’s health care. We offer a drug free, safe and cost effective option for your pets’ dental care.
We always wear clean gloves and towels. We also always clean and sterilize equipment between cleanings. During the procedure, we chart the mouth, probe, scale, polish, apply a fluoride treatment. Our technique is kind and gentle. Large dogs lay on the floor between our legs. Small dogs and cats are wrapped in a towel and held in the lap or a table. We then use one hand to control the mouth and expose the teeth, and the other to scale and polish. The cleanings take about 60 minutes, depending on the amount of calculus build-up and how your pet is feeling.
We think it’s all about attitude. We talk and praise them to reassure them. We always provide your pet with a safe, warm environment necessary to get the best health care possible for your loved one. We have to consider each dog’s case individually and weigh all the factors: health, age, condition of the teeth, and temperament. The key to the treatment is patience… most canines that receive the treatment eventually get used to it and simply sit back and relax as we would at the dentist. If possible, do not feed for 2-3 hours before cleaning.
Polishing the teeth after a thorough scaling is essential to the continued health of teeth and gums. Failing to polish well after scaling means more tartar will build-up in the end. We will polish the teeth using a fluoride-based pumice. Then we can assist you in getting started on a home maintenance program to ensure the overall health of your pet.
She worked in a veterinary clinic while studying in the veterinarian technician program. During this program, she followed clinical rotations in well-known animal hospitals such as Knowles and Hollywood Animal Hospital. She passed the national and state exams and became certified in 2007.
She always has held a specific interest in dentistry and followed many continuing education programs about it. She performed hundreds of dental cleaning with anesthesia but realized that many patients with mild to moderate tartar do not need to be put under. She worked in an emergency hospital for almost 2 years and assisted Dr. Rosales, a dog and cat dermatologist who taught her a lot about allergies and the importance of good nutrition.
Today she mainly performs dentals without anesthesia.
